This summer, discover an online digital collection of documents and artifacts that depict life in the Ozarks between 1850 and 1875. Community and Conflict: the Impact of the Civil War in the Ozarks will portray the effects of the War on the people as they lived through one of the most contested regions of the country.

Visitors will explore first hand perspectives of this conflict through the eyes of soldiers, civilians, merchants and farmers. This collection of letters, maps, diaries, court records and photographs will document the tempestuous period of Ozarks history by investigating urban development, slavery, agriculture, military life, civilian refugees, women and many other issues.

This digital project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
